Additional information about Renault key cards.
Why do Renault remote key cards stop working?
Renault key cards are a great idea but they are easily damaged by dropping them, slamming them in car doors, sitting down with them in your pocket, dropping them in the toaster, dogs chewing them, microwaving them, windsurfing with them or running them over. Also, the internal switch buttons disintegrate regularly and the printed circuit boards crack with normal use.
Renault key cards are expensive from Renault main dealers and you will need to show identification together with your V5 ownership document before they will be ordered adding a further 7 to 15 days. Once your Renault key card arrives you will then need to get your car to the Renault dealer to have the Renault key card programmed.
Alternatively, Auto Technix are offering a replacement Renault key card supplied and programmed while you wait with a significantly lower cost, the reason that this can be done so quickly is an aftermarket Renault key card does not have the chassis number written to it and can be programmed to any car, Renault do not like or use this method because a key card could be programmed in to a Renault vehicle by an unscrupulous technician whilst the car is at the dealer and then later stolen using the new key card.
The Renault Clip diagnostic system used by the main dealers will not allow a non-Chassis number coded key card to be programmed to your vehicle, this means that only genuine key cards supplied by Renault can be used by Renault dealers.
Once a new Renault key card has been programmed to your car it is then encrypted and the code locked in such a way that it cannot be used on another car, beware of websites such as eBay who list secondhand Renault key cards, these are worthless and a waste of money now that lower cost alternatives are available.
